Educating and spreading awareness about Celiac Disease.
Celiac Disease occurs in around 1% of the Pakistani population, however, 90% of patients remain undiagnosed.
Our mission is to empower and support individuals affected by Celiac Disease and gluten-intolerance. We aim to do this through fostering awareness, education, and increasing access to resources, with the ultimate goal of promoting a Celiac-friendly world.
What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease is a chronic digestive and immune disorder that damages the small intestine. The disease is triggered by eating foods which contain gluten. People affected by Celiac disease must strictly adhere to a gluten-free diet.
Karachi Celiac Society
Meet the Team
Founder - Ameera Osman
Hi! My name is Ameera. I’m 17 years old and currently an A-Levels student who has been living in Karachi for 7 years. I was 2 years old when I was diagnosed with Celiac, so I have been gluten-free pretty much my whole life. When I first moved to Karachi it was extremely difficult settling into a society in which the idea of a strictly gluten-free diet was completely alien. More importantly, I struggled finding a community of people who lived the same lifestyle as me.
I decided to start Karachi Celiac Society in 2020 with the aim of helping people struggling to adapt to a gluten-free lifestyle find a community of people facing the same challenges. Within this community we aim to educate and share resources, making gluten-free living in Karachi easier one step at a time.
